The Georgia Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) recently honored Cpl Johnny Ashe with the "Officer of the Year" award, announces the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD). Ashe, a Conservation Corporal stationed in DodgeCounty, is now also is eligible for the national award.

Over several months in 2009, Cpl. Ashe, with assistance from Cpl. Barry Britt and RFC Rodney Horne, conducted an investigation that revealed the illegal taking of 27 wild turkeys. The case also involved multiple suspects and stretched across several counties. The dedication that Cpl. Ashe demonstrated during the investigation resulted in ending a string of poaching that was taking a severe toll on the local turkey population.
